5.0 out of 5 stars – IZZY NAILS IT
By Angela Sherman
I love this niche! Izzy nails it and has us laughing as we share in his anecdotes of life as a single dad. A must-read for anyone who is thinking about having kids, or just started a family… Rock on! Thanks for thinking outside the box, Izzy.

5.0 out of 5 stars – Funny and entertaining book to read before being a parent (after is OK too)
By Marcia
When Life Gives You Children: Knowledge is Power by Izzy Rehaume is a funny recollection of stories that will make you run away at the prospect of having children (if you already have kids: SORRY!).
The author does not follow the line of the endless parenting books out there: the stories here are meant as a warning sign that your life is going to change forever and not always in a good way. Your sense of self can easily disappear for you to be only a parent. And, most of the time, a parent who has no idea of what he/she is doing, let’s face it. Having children is challenging and the author, in a very funny, light-hearted way, shares the stories, the struggles, laughs that come with it. Being a parent can be messy and not funny but it also can be extremely rewarding. Just prepare yourselves for the changes to come and not expect it to be always dreamy.

5.0 out of 5 stars – So Funny!
By Ericka
When Life Gives You Children: Knowledge is Power is a hilarious, tongue in cheek book that will have you holding your stomach from laughing so hard. Even those who are not parents and do not have any children, this is an enjoyable read. Single parents, in particular, should read this book, as it provides a funny but realistic picture of what your life is actually like day-in and day-out. Although this book is humorous, it does provide a “you are not alone” type scenario that I think most single parents, myself included, will really appreciate. Parenting is hard, and single parenting is even harder. There are mental, physical and emotional challenges for any parent, and it seems the more children you have, the greater these challenges are. I highly recommend this book, and I don’t see how anyone could not enjoy reading this book, so it will be worth your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars – ‘Before I got married I had six theories about bringing up children; now I have six children and no theories.’ – Wilmot
By Grady Harp – HALL OF FAMETOP 500 REVIEWER
In an immensely entertaining fashion, Izzy takes us through the trials of parenting – pregnancy and birth, bedtime/mealtime/bath time, potty training, playtime, childproofing, pets, soccer dad, shopping, holidays, school, physician visits, babysitters, money, parents work-life, et and ends with an enormously helpful (and funny) 21 tips of terrific parenting – a section that includes, humor, patience, split decisions, keeping promises, asking kids for advice, first aid kits, make time for yourself, be ambidextrous, set a good example and more.

For new parents and for those contemplating parenthood this is a must-read. For the general audience, this is a hilarious book, complete within illustrations, that you’ll probably pass on to friends. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars – I loved hearing about his crazy parenting!
By JoJo Maxson

Only a parent will find the humor, as well as shame, as we recall similar accounts in our family’s lives as we rear our children. Izzy Rehaume is a fascinating storyteller, though I know there has to be some truth to each story. He makes his family sound fun, crazy, and a bit bizarre. When Life Gives You Children: Knowledge is Power could be used as a scare tactic for teenagers, but in reality, people who read this book before having children would say, “This would never happen in my house!”. So the warning would go unheeded.

Disclaimer: Not all families with boys have “target practice”. Although I laughed at the author’s dilemma, I probably would have found a severe punishment when this activity started. This also tells the other side of the story when it is a single dad caring for the children and his admittance that it isn’t easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars – Enjoy the Textured Look at Parenthood
By Scarlett Jensen
As a writer, he showcases his ability and experience in this delightful guide with tips in the last chapter. Izzy Rehaume writes about Parenthood from a Single Dad’s Perspective. A lot of reflection and personal commentary is given in a humorous way which runs parallel with daily parental responsibilities. He focuses on the privilege of rearing children but fills space with a kaleidoscope of some real and some imagined scenes that will intrigue a word lover through his imageries.

Is being a single parent difficult? Izzy Rehaume is a musician who became a single parent of four energetic boys. Being a clueless dad, he started taking down notes on how to take control which eventually became a book titled “When Life Gives You Children”. In this book, he incorporates humor as he reveals the complexity of parenthood.

He shares his experiences as a single dad. Although it is common to find single mothers out there, it is refreshing to hear parenting advice from a single father. Winning the custody of the kids when they were very young, Izzy spent years mastering his job as a solo parent and ultimately conquered – and he wishes to share this journey with us.

Sprouting from his work, the reader feels reality and the emotional impact, intuition, premonition, commitment a single parent lives. What stands out is his extreme descriptions and dialogue lending texture to sentences he fills to the brim.

5.0 out of 5 stars – Knowledge is Power by Izzy Rehaume is an outrageously funny book and so apt
By V.E.
When Life Gives You Children: Knowledge is Power by Izzy Rehaume is an outrageously funny book and so apt, especially if you are the parent of boys. From potty training to hiring a live-in babysitter and everything in between, Rehaume recounts what it was like for him raising four boys, and the challenges that entailed. Hilarious moments abound throughout this book, but there is some common sense advice as well. In particular, chapter twenty-one offers 21 tips for terrific parenting that are realistic and practical. There are many quotes about parenting and children which add to the overall fun vibe; reminding the reader that parenting isn’t for those with weak stomachs and no patience. This is a useful book for new parents and hardened professionals as well, who have been thrown into the quagmire of the parenting game. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars – One man’s guide to raising children
By Jimmy Ray
Izzy is a single dad who has put together a book about the experience and what you can do to help understand the truth of parenting. A well-written self-help book with some solid insight and good descriptions of life as a parent raising children. This is a good book for anyone who is thinking about becoming a parent or those of us who are already parents. Well written and easy to read and follow. Just remember at the end of the day each child is an individual and different in their own way and none of them are born with a manual that tells us what to do. Check out this book and good luck with the adventure in parenting.
